Stop the Tournament Rules
We need to get the tournament rules brought before a hearing or they will pass.Web page for Wisconsin State Representatives - http://www.legis.state.wi.us/asmhome.htm
Here is why.
Time is of the essence.
DO IT NOW
The latest version of the Tournament fishing rules (FH-22-06A) has passed the Natural Resources Board and is heading to the assembly.
While the WDNR has stated that it expects the Assembly to not hold a hearing which would result in the rules becoming law it would be prudent to once again have elected officials review the rules prior to their becoming law.
While a number of the throw-away portions of the bill have been deleted a number of critical issues remain with FH-22-06A that must be scrutinized prior to determining that the rules are law.
For the sake of brevity I will point out two key issues.
First are the road blocks to mentoring type tournaments. While changes have been made to allow tournaments in which all of the participants are under 18, tournaments in which one member of the team is required to be under 18 (as is the case with “mentoring events) are still blocked. While the WDNR might think that assigning departments of people to try and figure out how to get kids outside, allowing adults that are willing to use their time to actually take kids outside and interact with them will always be more successful.
Second, the adoption of the tournament limits on the Mississippi River matching those of Iowa and Minnesota is an economic knife in the heart of the River Communities that will loose Millions of dollars in economic impact that the tournaments bring in each year. Allowing the WDNR to enact these rules would be equivalent to allowing the WDNR to write a multi-million dollar check which the River Communities and the State of Wisconsin (not the WDNR) will have to pay.
I ask that you consider requesting a hearing on FH22-06A to address these and other problems that still exist with these rules.
It is still possible to correct the most economically and socially damaging portions of these rules.
